Frequently Asked Questions about
the Large Document Imaging System

What type of person makes the best LDI franchisee?
As an LDI franchisee, you will recruit and manage a small staff (beginning with yourself and one key employee) that will grow as business grows. Your employees will run an assortment of digital printers and systems, and will work with the flow of customers throughout the day. You, the owner, will be present to build customer relations, and you will also free yourself to get out to meet them, as time permits. All owners have direct management of personnel, sales, expense management, and all other operations requirements. Time and energy and the owner's presence are requirements for success.

How large is a protected territory?
You will have an option for exclusive rights to a geographic area that will prevent others from opening an LDI office close to you. However, you are permitted (as supported by Federal Law), to call on customers anywhere. The LDI model is built on convenience to the customer, and you will see your customers, in your market region, using your branch for this reason

How long will it take to get started?
You are in control of most of the variables in getting your branch open. We try to schedule your training as soon as you are available once you've signed your lease. Securing your location and getting your office ready promptly helps most units open in 45-90 days from the signing of the lease.

How much does an LDI franchise cost to open?
We charge a reasonable initial franchise fee of $30,000. $10,000 is due upon signing of the Franchise Agreement. As operating expenses, $25,000 - $50,000 should be available in accessible funds to cover the start-up and growth phase. We estimate that most franchisees will initially spend between $80,000 and $154,000 to have a buffer for success.

Is financing available?
LDI is not in the finance business. However, franchisees who lack the cash on hand to meet our requirements have, and will continue, to use any other personal assets (real estate, stock & bond portfolios, retirement savings, etc.) to finance their LDI businesses. We recommend you obtain advice from a financial professional.

Do I buy my equipment and supplies from LDI?
LDI is not a seller of equipment and supplies. Your purchasing is entirely your decision. However, LDI, due to our history and strong position in the marketplace, takes an active role in negotiating equipment and supply contracts that benefit all franchisees. In addition, as our branch operations upgrade their systems, there are frequent opportunities for "used" equipment purchases at steep discounts.

What are the ongoing costs of a franchise?
Like all franchises, there is a monthly fee that contributes to the successful management of the franchise organization. LDI's fee is 7% of gross sales, typical of the franchise industry.

How much can I earn?
This is the key question for any investor. Federal Law prohibits us from making any claims regarding earnings, profits, or future success, for the obvious reason that nobody can project what will happen tomorrow. LDI is very comfortable with the fact that, in our 18 years of history (16 years in the franchise business), we have had 24 units open, and all 24 are still in business today. This said, you are in control of your profits based upon how much energy you put into the business.
